VISION

The Girl-Child, A rare gem for Education

WHO WE ARE

Hope for the Vulnerable Initiative is a non-profit organisation that can be described as the ‘’voice of the voiceless’’ and an advocate of change in the society.

As an NGO, Hope for the Vulnerable Initiative (HVI) is championing the right of the girl-child through its Girl-Child Education Support Initiative, especially those orphaned due to HIV/AIDs, victims of violence, rape, abuse and neglect as well as those whose parents’ means of livelihood cannot sustain them to send their children to school.

We are working in rural areas in the six geographical areas of Nigeria starting with Mashafa village at Bwari Area Council, in the Federal Capital territory Abuja where we interacted with the girls in that village as well as provided face mask as well as conducted a scholarship interview for them as we await for schools to resume in order to present their scholarship to them

Our intervention centres on providing scholarships to acquire an excellent education and to be great leaders in the future, thereby becoming full and productive members of the society, with the ability to contribute their own quota to the development of our nation.

Hope for the Vulnerable Initiative is also focusing on recognising and appreciating through the ANGEL WINGS AWARDS OF EXCELLENCE Religious Leaders who have in one way or the other made an impact within the church and the mosque in the society by promoting girl-child education through their sermons and other interventions towards the girl-child education.

The Role of the Religious Men towards the girl-child education.

Religion plays a central integrating role in social and cultural life in most developing countries. There are many more religious leaders than health workers. They are in closer and regular contact with all age groups in the society and their voice is highly respected.

In rural areas, religious leaders are often more influential than community leaders.

Pastors/Imams should promote and uphold the rights of the girl-child and to encourage their followers to invest in the girl-child as a way of reducing the prevalence of child marriages, rape, victims of violence, orphaned HIV/AIDs, abuse and neglects as well as poverty stricken family.

Pastors and Imams should abhor girl-child marriages due to out of schooling than condoning it due to the negative implications on the future of the girl-child

Both the church and the mosque should be the vanguard role in defending the rights of the girl-child

Pastors and Imams should stop taking advantage of their positions in the church and mosque by raping and marrying young girls. Such religious leaders should be monitored and exposed by both the community and other sane religious leaders

There is the need for pastors and Imams to integrate in their sermons and religious outreaches in villages, community churches and mosques the girl-child rights.
